Anatomy of a temple

No one ever really goes into the Temple of Baakj unless they are preists or scholars.  It is too close to the royal family, too close to their quarters and gardens.  Each year the younger students mind less and less that they must take lessons so close to that sanctuary, and the elders must remind them of the rules of status and occupation.  Of course the temple itself does not connect directly to the royal apartments, no; the inner courtyard is closed off, and it is said that the halls beyond the inner wall are more tangled and complex than the route through the Wasteland of Lost Wanderers.  But surely you've been to Baakj's temple before?  No?  Then I shall describe it for you.

Baakj's temple is the largest in any city.  It is only natural – she is our Mother Goddess after all.  Hers is the tallest temple, the tallest building even, and its grounds are wide and walled.  Like any holy place the entrance faces southwest, toward the sunrise, and the highway runs between the two lesser temples dedicated to the Cults of Order.  The sacred spring always lies in the middle of the courtyard in any city, and the highway goes around it on either side.  Baakj's temple has five tiers: the first is the largest, and it's where the royal family lives and holds assemblies, and represents the essence of our kind, the kyllahän.  It is accessible to anyone, and both inside and out is decorated with pillars and murals and arches.  The second tier represents our affinity with nature and all Baakj's blessings, and that is why it is directly above that which represents our own essence.  The third tier is unity, set equally between the mundane and the divine; it is plain and uniform, and no one but priests may step upon it.  The fourth tier is the universe, and represents our hearts; it may seem big from below, but really is smaller than we think.  The fifth tier is death, and on it sits the shrine to Sjybrök, our path to Baakj.  The five tiers are made for the five couples which sprang from Baakj's silver egg, and the shrine is for the holy eleventh who taught us Baakj's way.  Only the highest priests may enter the shrine, and it is said there are chambers below it in which the holiest meditate on the path beyond death.

The temple is all red, you know, except for the parts painted with writing and murals of Baakj's gifts to us.  The stairs are lit up with fire-bowls during ceremonies and such, and the corner-altars facing north and south, and east and west, are set ablaze as well.  The altar in the center, though… well, that's a different story.  You see, there, at the top of the hundred eleven stairs at the sacred peak, is where the ascension sacrifices are made.  You've never seen the ritual?  Such a dirty thing.  It happens when one of the king's children is accepted fully into the family, when they are made to host a pötlepytj and drink blood.  I hear there was one not long ago in Nöra. In fact, I believe one of our princesses here was sent there as a bride to the new monster.  Ah well, their business is not ours.  At any rate, our altar has nine sides, and is taken to a special shrine when they don't need it for festivals and ceremonies and rituals.

Well, since you've never seen the temple or the ritual, I'll assume you've never been inside either.  Our temple here in Värhelklad has some of the finest colored-glass shrines you'll ever see!  Most of the cults have managed to get their own somewhere in the antechamber, but of course there are those to Höetg and Vliålj and Smådj as well, and they are the largest and bear the most offerings.  The pillars and arches are all painted and carved, and there's writing everywhere but I can't read it.  Outside are the orchards and harinj paddocks as well, of course, and most of the priesthood live in apartments on the south side near the wall.  I don't know what else to tell you.  You'll have to see one for yourself someday.
This is sort of a combination of the July challenges - NaCoWriMo and specialized vocab. Here, every word specifically describing a temple would be the specialized terminology. It's a little late, but oh well. I plan to write it in the script later because it'll take FOREVER in Paint, but then I'll upload that separately and as the preview pic for this.

I'd like to note that this is in the Värhelklad dialect of hemnälg.

*Edit: Added gloss. If anyone prefers, I can make it interlinear, but if I do so it'll be a new deviation that I'll put in my scraps.
*Edit2: I don't know if this resubmits every time I edit, but I found two glaring mistakes. Fixed now. Sorry. (-_-)
*Edit3: I swear this is the last one. I uploaded the first paragraph in the traditional script as a preview image, and will add the full image to my scraps if it turns out really small.

Questions and comments are welcome. If anyone would like a gloss, or the same thing in a different dialect of the language, just ask in the comments and I'll provide it.

Interesting, you have markers at the end of your words, do they apply to the word that they are affixed too?

I'm asking because in Tarojan the "affix" describes the next word in a sentence, not the word its attached too.

I'm not sure what you're referring to... you mean all the /ic/ and /ec/ endings and stuff? Affixes in this language are relevant to the word they're attached to, to indicate relation to the other words. Does that answer your question?

"National Conlang Writing Month." It's a spinoff of NaNoWriMo, or "National Novel Writing Month." The point is to write an original piece of a certain length, but in your conlang.

I'm pretty sure #Conlangers wants 200 words minimum, but I think NaNoWriMo is at least 50,000 words.

I'd enjoy a gloss, yeah! I always enjoy your languages, they look very natural while still keeping their alien feel.
